Overwhelming

Hi,

"The driving experience was overwhelming."

Or

"The driving experience was overwhelmingly strong."

Context: Of late, I have started taking driving lessons. So how should I say use the word - "OVERWHELMING" - as an adjective or as an adverb. Are my sentences grammatically correct?

Thanks.

Your sentences are both fine, but with different meanings. The driving experience was overwhelming = the experience was more than I could take The driving experience was overwhelmingly strong = the experience was exceptionally strong.

But he is in fact not correct. Both sentences are fine, and in fact I prefer your sentence as expressive and saying what you felt.
