Overuse of commas?

Hi there!

Hope someone can add an opinion.

My colleague and I are in dispute about the use of commas in this sentence. Which would you say is correct?

'This was of interest to them as it presented another, quite different, opportunity'

or

'This was of interest to them as it presented another quite different opportunity'

or perhaps something else entirely?

Many thank in advance,

J

'This was of interest to them as it presented another, quite different, opportunity' Commas reflect the way you would say it, not with pauses necessarily, but a different intonation from the second version. Yes, I would write it with the commas - as I have in my explanation. They indicate parenthesis.
