Overboard?

What is "overboard"? btw is this "British" English?

So enjoy a glass of wine with dinner once in a while, or pour yourself a beer after a long day at work. Just make sure not to go overboard, because over consumption of alcohol can lead to some very serious health issues.

go overboard ~ go to extremes ~ take things too far (metaphorically) — in this context, "drink too much". As far as I know, this expression is equally British and American. CJ
