Over the last few months, I had been writing... or had written

I am not sure if I can use the past perfect continuous and the past perfect in my examples below.

(1) Over the last few months, I had been writing lots of reports for my business project. Two weeks ago, I completed them, and now I can start a new project.

(2) Over the last few months, I had written lots of reports for my business project. Two weeks ago, I started working on a new project.

The reason why I am using those tenses, as indicated in orange, is that the writing happened before a new project started. Please give me your comments. Thanks.
