Over the, in the, for the & since - only present perfect tense ?

Over the past week, in the past week, for the past week & since last week - are these only limited to the use of present perfect tense?

i.e. I have been sick for the past week. This indicates I am still sick.

What if I am already well? Can I then say " I HAD been sick for the past week" ?

, I'd been sick for the past week, but I got better at the weekend. Note that it would also be natural to say, I visited him a few times over the past week/in the past week. I was sick for the past week, but I'm feeling better now.
