over the dashboard?

Hi All,

What do we call that part of the car which is kind of over or covering the dashboard? It's behind the steering wheel or between the steering wheel and the windshield. I'm not sure how to descrive it in detail.

Top answer

I've always considered it to be part of the dashboard. I was also thinking "cowling," but I guess that's a metal cover that extends over the engine. I believe the term was used in early automobiles -- and aircraft engines.
