Over seeing (two words)

The sentence is:

I preferred her to believe all that people have told her over seeing how low her mother had sunk.

Is is correct?

I want to express the idea of a mother who prefers that her daughter believes the fabricated story that people have told her for years, better than knowing how deep her mother had fallen (because she is really a harlot).

I am not sure about the words 'over seing' here and if it's better to use 'had sunk' or 'had fallen' at the end of the sentence.

gamboler Is is correct? The grammar is correct, but its structure is confusing; I had to read it twice to understand it. I preferred that she believe all that people have been telling her over the years, rather than her seeing how low her mother had sunk.
