Outside of my box

Hi

My prayer practice forces me outside of my box, and provides a deep place to resource from when confronting
trauma and crisis.

Does it mean that the prayer practice forces this person to do unconventional things?

Top answer

Not necessarily unconventional things, but things which the writer might not ordinarily or routinely do. From the context (prayer) I think that there is a implication that it is really "forces me to think outside the box), so the writer is not forced to do anything without due consideration. Finally in "outside of my box", the word "of" is redundant (though often used).

Newguestoutside of my box,
To be "outside one's box" means to be in a place that is not comfortable on an emotional level. But it can be a learning experience for new behaviors or ideas.

But could it also mean "think outside the box" like UltimatePedant suggested?

Think outside the box is a phrase that means "look for novel and creative solutions." I don't see the connection to your example.
