Outlaw Torn

This is the title of a song by Metallica. I do know what an "outlaw" is, but what confuses me is the word "torn". It's obviously a verb, the past participle of 'tear', but I don't seem to grasp the meaning of the whole phrase.

This song is supposedly about losing someone you love.

I see but what would you make out of it if you were presented with the song title only, without having heard the lyrics?

And shouldnt' it be the Torn Outlaw? I'd say the Damaged Car, not the Car Damaged, if you know what I mean.

It is a game of words i think. The title of the song is Outlaw torn. The lyrics are about outlaw of Torn. I think that the song is about person declared out of the law and Torn is his place of origin. It is used the same way you say douches of Cambridge, Robin of Sherwood and so on...
