I was just wondering, if someone is referring to taking off their clothes, and then laying out what they are going to wear the next day, if it is part of the same sentence, would it be better to describe putting out a new "set" of clothing or "outfit"? Or does it simply not matter?

Top answer
Outfit sounds more appropriate to me. But I'm no clothes horse, so "set" may work for others as well.
