"outer sky" meaning

Hello,

I would like to know what the expression "the outer sky" or "an outer sky" could mean.

As in the poem Yellow was the outer Sky by Emily Dickinson or any other instance.

Thank your for your reply.

It's not an expression. I think she meant the part of a sunset sky farther from the sun.
