It makes sense, but I don't think the phrase is generally used with people. I'll be interested in hearing what other natives think.

I like people who are out of the ordinary.

Better - I like unusual people.

I enjoy the company of people who tend to march to their own drummer.

Hi,

I wouldn't say 'out of the ordinary' is a very uncommon expression.

Nor would I say that 'I like unusual' is better.

I think this can be translated as " I like extraordinary people" which sounds more natural to my ears.

I think you'll find that "extraorindary" will be interpreted as people who have done great or amazing things, while the original could simply mean people who dye their hair green or who collect items made of green Jello.

Hi Ms. GG,

Correct me if I am wrong. People who are out of the ordinary can be thought of as those who are above the oridinary. Would "extraordinary" describe such people?

Again, people will interpret "extraordinary" as "super," "great" or "significnatly better than most."

Yes, it does have a meaning of simply being outside of what is "normal" (whatever that is these days), but most poeple will think it means what I've said above.

I don't think that was what the original poster has in mind.

The original poster didn't ask for thoughts about other people's comments. He asked for thoughts about his sentence.

Hi,

Possibly you are new to this Forum. If so, welcome.

A thread often becomes an ongoing and evolving discussion that goes beyond the original query. Our experience, based on learner feedback, is that many learners value this kind of discussion.
