Out of shute

It worked first time out of the chute.

Does that mean it worked from the first time I used it?

Thanks.

Yes, you're correct. The "chute" which immediately comes to mind is the closely fenced inclosure from which a bucking bronco is released, to see how long a cowboy contestant in a rodeo can stay on his back. (sorry about that ugly sentence) "Out of the gate" is also used.

  • It doesn't exactly fit your example, but it is possible for this to be the first time for either the cowboy or the bronco.
