Out of Duluth

Dear experts:

I'm now reading "The Bridges of Madison County", and here is what puzzles me right from the beginning:

On the morning of August 14, two hours out of Duluth, he sliced northeast and took a back road up to Hibbing and the iron mines...

To the best of my knowledge, the highlighted phrase mans that two hours passed after he left Duluth.

I am asking this because one translation of this says that he still had to drive for two hours to reach Duluth.

Please help clear this out.

Many thanks in advance,
Max

It could mean either!
Often, the context will make the intended meaning clear.

Clive, that was important, thanks for your contribution. I haven't yet read the whole thing, and it could well be that the translation is correct.
