Out of

Does 'out of' mean 'from' here?

DragOnspeaker's response above reminds me that, on episodes of the Jack Benny Show, a comedy program on American TV (1950 - 1965 and still available on reruns), there was a "yes-man" character played by Frank Nelson (1911 - 1986). He typically portrayed a sales clerk or some such functionary whom Benny's character would run into seemingly out of nowhere.
