Our punch was cooling in an ornamental lake, on whose margin the bower was raised.

Hello everyone.

Please could you explain me a sentence written by Charles Dickens?

Here it is:

Our punch was cooling in an ornamental lake, on whose margin the bower was raised.

What is meant by "was cooling"? Does it mean that the punch was refreshing or that they used the lake to cool the punch?

Thank you in advance.
