Our life or our lives?

Could you please tell me what variant is right: “the best things in our life are free” or “...in our lives...” (that was suggested to me by google translate)?

“Our life” in my language (Russian) is equivalent to “humans life”. In English isn’t so?

  • If we forget about the proverb and look only at the grammar, "our life" does not work there.
