Our children are little Blade Runners

Hi,

I have this passage talking about the differences in life styles between two generations. And the writer says "our children are little Blade Runners, immersed in their own stunning and constantly entertaining high-speed lives."

I know Blade Runner is a sort of science fiction film. But I don't quite see how to explain this sentence. Does it mean the younger generation leads a kind of life, which is ever changing and no one could be certain about what's coming? If so, that sounds not good for people who want to be sure about their lives.

I'll appreciate your comments. Thank you!

htm To say our children are Blade Runners is to say they act as if they are forever zipping around on in-line roller skates. I don't think the passage you cite has anything to do with the science fiction film, where a "blade runner" was basically a "bounty hunter". As I recall the writers liked the sound of "blade runner" because it sounded a bit like "bounty hunter", and they needed something more exotic for a sci-fi fillm.

  • I think this is a case of strange homonyms.
