...our chances of survival, come what may, are greatly increased...

What does the come mean in the following text? I couldn't find any such meaning of come in a dictionary which fitted in the given context.

In survival situations, fire is certainly a basic and important element. The ability to create a fire anytime anywhere means your chances of survival,
come what may, are greatly increased.

Hi Jackson,

"come what may" is idiomatic - it means "whatever may happen."
