Our art gallery
Our art gallery, a national art museum featuring the collection, research and display of works by artists ranging from modern times to the contemporary era, is a national cultural landmark since the foundation of new China. The building has distinctive ethnic features in the sense that its main hall is in the style of ancient attics, which is topped with a large yellow glazed tile roof and enclosed by corridors. The main hall covers an area of over 18000 square meters. It houses 17 display areas of more than 8300 square meters.
Our art gallery has a collection of about 100000 art works, characterized by representative works in different eras and those by artists from late 19th century up till now, including part of ancient Chinese drawings and foreign art works as well as abundant folk art works.
Since the foundation of our art gallery, it has become an important platform for exchanges between Chinese and foreign art works through hosting thousands of influential art exhibitions. It also emphasizes on building extended public services and means through designing its official website and launching Digital Art Gallery program --- the official website has been upgraded three times and over ten art data base has been built. It is gradually becoming a platform for distributing, searching and sharing art-related information.
