Our Achievers

Hi! This a brief interview to our achievers that will be included in our school paper. Please the grammar and give the correct one. Thank you.

HIGHEST EARNER (IPTP)

MATIAS, ARON M.

He is a current BSHRM 4A1 student who took part in the Work and Travel USA 2011 at Hawks Cay, Florida. He shared his experiences, challenges ,and advices during an interview. From March 4 to June 19, 2011, he worked as a Server Assistant from 7am-7pm. He shared how challenging it was to serve the customers because of their high expectations and demands. Moreover, he promotes the IPTP to students who have the opportunity to join because of the good feedbacks he got. Being the highest earner during this Work and Travel Program, he advised the incoming participants to be hard working to earn a lot. As a proof of being a hardworking man, he also shared how he took part-time friends and foreigners were really unforgettable.

VALERA, JAYLEE S.

Leaving the Philippines last March 4, 2011, this BSHRM 4A4 student also worked at Hawks Cay, Florida as a Room Attendant. Working from 9am-5pm, she earned a salary of $ 10/hr. With this amount and by being thrifty, it contributed a lot for her to give back the money that her family spent when she came in the Philippines last June 17, 2011. However, during her OJT abroad, she said she was challenged to adapt a new culture. Moreover, as a Room Attendant, she shared how much patience she has to give whenever the customers are very meticulous in terms of arrangements. Another value she acquired was to be flexible in times when a number of rooms were needed to be re-arranged all at the same time. Despite all these, she advised everyone to love his/her work so that even a lot of pressures may occur, it will never be the reason to give up. One clever advice she gave was to save money not only to return the expenses to her OJT, but also because this will gain trust from the persons financing her. Proving her character in terms of handling money, it will surely give way for her to join further activities.

BAÑARES, KEYFER KLIENT B.

After joining the Work and Travel Program (March 4-June 7,2011) working as a Public Space Attendant from 8am-11pm at Hawks Cay, Florida, this BSHRM 4A4 student was recognized also for being one of the highest earners upon returning to the country. He shared that in order to earn, one must be industrious. He also learned how to be submissive – performing any task given to him without complaining – which really helped him improve his performance. His initiative to do the job and not merely waiting to be instructed all the time was also practiced. When asked about his strategy of earning a lot, he said that incidentally, his schedule prevented him from shopping which resulted for him no to spend luxuriously on souvenirs. It was because the challenge on him was being the solo employee (PSA) wherein even his “day-off” is being spent on work whenever he’s called. A great advice he was able to share was something very practical and applicable. He said that one must always think that after the IPTP, he/she will still be needing money upon returning to study. This simply means – be disciplined and be matured enough to prepare what’s more important ahead.
