Others vs one another?

Hi, I have a question related to this paragraph

"Probably one of the most unfortunate aspects

of humans is their ability and willingness to kill

(11) ---- of their own species in wars.

The choices are:

A) every other

B) other

C) one another

D) others

E) each other

The correct answer is D apparently but I don't understand why that is the case. Couldn't C also be correct? Thanks in advance
