Other then?

Hi, all

I am a little confused about "other then" V.S "other than"
Here an example: "Depreciation rate for fixed assets other then specified above is 25% (4 years or 48 months)."

Is the sentence above correct? Or, should I replace then with than?

Thanks in advance, AL

It should be "other than". "other then" is always incorrect (well, it is not impossible for the words "other then" to appear together in a sentence, but never in any sense connected to "other than"). The depreciation rate for fixed assets other than those specified above is 25% (4 years or 48 months).

  • It should be "other than".
  • "other then" is always incorrect (well, it is not impossible for the words "other then" to appear together in a sentence, but never in any sense connected to "other than").
  • The depreciation rate for fixed assets other than those specified above is 25% (4 years or 48 months).
  • I don't exactly understand how "4 years or 48 months" relates to the rest of the sentence though.

How about: "Compare to their life, than ours is a little bit better." Is this correct?

The following are correct, and have the same meaning:

Compared to their life, ours is a little bit better.

Our life is a little bit better than theirs.

Then and than are commonly confused words. Even native speakers sometimes make mistakes with them.
