Other than when

Is the sequence of words natural? Is it correct to say "other than when"?
He's a nice person other than when he is drunk.

He’s a nice person, except when he is drunk. “Other than” and “except” are very similar. I think both could be used.

Yes. other than when, other than where, other than what, other than how, other than if, ....

The problem is that it sounds wordy because 'except' can almost always be used instead.
