What is the context? Both could be used in a sentence.

My new car is different than the old car.

Some years ago, a good friend of mine was hospitalised and I told him I would come and visit him at the hospital. We were best friends and shared many values together.

He said'' I wouldn't like to have any visiors other than my wife and daughter''.

I'd say that "different than" doesn't exist! It's "different from"...

We provide information in languages different from English.

Mr. Smith was certainly different from other people.
Mr. Smith was certainly other than other people

According to this definition 'Mr. Smith was certainly other than other people' sounds kinda weird (if it sounds at all), doesn't it?

What about this:

We provide information in languages different from English.

When we have other than, can we always use different from, as a substitute?
