Other relics...

Hi, what does "other relics" mean here? Indeed, I don't understand "I assumed separate bedrooms had gone the way of other relics" part.

Thanks!

But since my parents slept in side-by-side twin beds, and my wife and I later chose a king size mattress, I assumed separate bedrooms had gone the way of other relics.

"Other relics" refer to all those things, traditions and customs that were common/normal in the past but are now seen as "relics of the past" and are no longer in everyday use. He's basically saying that he thinks that separate bedrooms aren't used anymore and that (married) couples nowadays share the same bed.
