Does "had" have another meaning other than the past participle of have?!

Could it be a noun?

I'm inclinced to agree with Yoong Liat. Just to be certain, however, I'd like to know if you have any examples that led you to pose the question in the first place.

Thanks both for the reply. I have come across a sentence and people claimed to be a complete correct English sentence which I totally can't understand.

The sentence is:

((While John had had "had," had had "had had"; "had had" had had a better effect on the teacher)).

'had' in the incomplete sentence is a verb. The 'sentence' doesn't make sense.
