..or...(is/are)

Swimming, playing basketball or jogging (is/are) considered as work(or works?) if you do it for a living.

Is the answer 'is' or 'are'?

P.S Shouldn't it be ..playing basketball 'and' jogging?

Works is impossible. You can talk about work s of art in the plural. I would say: Swimming, playing basket ball and jogging are considered jobs if you do them for a living.

Thank you.

What if it is like this,

Either coffe or apple juice (is/are) good for you.

If you use "and" you should use "are" because you want to express that both subjects are (in this case) good for you.

If you use "or" you should use either "is" or "are", according to the last subject.

Eg:

(Either) Coffe or apple juice is good for you. (Only one of them, therefore use "is")

Coffe and apple juice is good for you. (Both, therefore use "are")

With a predicate like 'good for you', you would use "both":

Both coffee and apple juice are good for you.

You might use "either" with a different predicate.

Either coffee or apple juice [is / can be] used in this recipe.
