Originated or is originated

Hi, please look at this sentence and tell me why the underlined part shouldn't be "is originated from". Does it have to do with the transitive or intransitive nature of the word "originate"? I am not sure whether it is transitive or intransitive.

Now, I will tell you what Christmas is and where it originated (why not - is originated from?).
