Vocabulary

originals

Man: OK, you're sending this envelope to Chicago, right? Does it contain jewelry, cash, or any other valuables?
Woman: No, it's just photographs.
Man: That'll be seven dollars for express mail or three dollars regular.
Woman: I'll pay for express. That doesn't include insurance. They aren't exactly originals.
Man: No, it's extra for insurance. We only recommend insuring packages with contents over $50. Anything less than that isn't worth the trouble or expense of tracking.

I am not sure what "originals" means here. Does a photo have an original? Please advise.

Well if you combine the previous line you get ' No, it's just photographs. ' Then maybe it's not about the photo being original. It's the photo being something worth the effort .

If it's not something special it's not worth the effort of insuring.

MadhulkIf it's not something special it's not worth the effort of insuring.

Could that also mean the photos were not taken by the woman, so they were not the originals, then not worth the effort to insure them?
