Origin of coffee

According to UTNE READER, Nov/Dec 94, by Mark Schapiro, "Muddy Waters"
1000 A.D.: Arab traders bring coffee back to their homeland andcultivate the plant for the first time on plantations. They also began to boil the beans, creating a drink they call "qahwa" (literally, that which prevents sleep).
Is there anything to the claim that ""qahwa" means "that which prevents sleep"?
The OED says (ad. Arab. qahwah, in Turkish pronounced kahveh, the name of the infusion or beverage; said by Arab lexicographers to have originally meant ?wine' or some kind of wine, and to be a derivative of a vb.-root qahiya ?to have no appetite.'
