Oriental vs. Asian

Was wondering in North American culturure I always thought it was PC not to refer to people as Oriental but instead by country of origin or Asian. Am I wrong on this. Can someone help me research this? I am wildly curious.

I can't cite anything beyond the company that I work for, an Austin based Americam company, stating that we will use the word 'Asian'. I never thought Orient
