Ordinal number (some confusion)

Hello, comrades!
I have some doubts using the ordinals.
Here are the sentences.
1. She is the first or first in the class. (will there be article?)
2. We were the third or third in the standings. (will there be article?)

Tell me the correct form, if you can....

1. She is the first or first in the class. Both of these can be used, but it changes the meaning slightly.

(a)
She is the first in her class... to do something.
She is the first in her class to get perfect scores on all her assignments.
(b)
She is first in her class. (Meaning she the best in her class)

2. We were the third or third in the standings.

Ok, thank you for reminding. But it was a mistake I thought my first post wasn't published...I promise it won't be repeated.
