Ordering in Restaurants

Hi mates,

I found I have trouble ordering food in restaurants.

Usually I go to lunch with 2 colleagues of mine and I am the one to order. Waiters always assume that we would all have the set lunch and are like "how many soup? how many salads?" and I will be like "2 salads and 1 soup, 3 steaks, and 3 iced lemon tea, please"

So my question is, if the waiter doesn't ask me anything, should I start with "we'll have 3 set lunches" first to show I'm not ordering anything on the a-la-carte menu? does it sound weird?

Not at all...except that I call them 'lunch sets'.

Thank you Clive and Micawber. Another thing that confuses me is countability of names of food.

a mocha, 2 mochas? or 2 mocha?

a spaghetti bolognese, 2 spaghetti bologneses or 2 spaghetti bolognese?

a couple of months ago I bought some cakes for my colleagues (those pastry-like cakes, not those large cakes cut into slices) and I sent out the following invitation by email:

a mocha, 2 mochas? or 2 mocha?-- All OK when ordering
a spaghetti bolognese, 2 spaghetti bologneses or 2 spaghetti bolognese?- All OK when ordering

Subject: Have Some Cake I have bought some cakes for you.
Please come on out to the pantry and take a break, have some cake!
I used the uncountable cake to generally invite my colleagues

No, I am American. Americans are all monolingual.
