I was reading our professor's article published in International Journal of Educational Investigations when I saw that expression which seemed odd to me:

Often, they are guidelines rather than absolute rules. As you note, I don't even like 'language' in there. I have merely given you the usual, though, not the only 'correct' way. I would have edited that text if given the chance, but evidently that writer found it more effective for his purpos
