From what I learned before, could is more polite thancan, and can sometimes indicates permission. However, when I go to coffee shops, I usually hear people say, "Can I get a grande latte please?"
Why? Is their any alternative usage? What if I say "I'd like a grande latte." or "could I get a grande latte please?"
Thank you!!
