Grammar

or...

Hello everyone,

I'm wondering how many things the part underlined represent.
What I mean is ... does the speaker want people to think about three things -- civilization, culture, country -- or just one thing, that is, civilization(and in this case, culture and country are used as supplements)?

Would you take a look at it and comment some?
Thanks!

Now, you’ll notice a sharp difference in the way Toynbee views civilization as compared to Spengler, whom you read last night. Spengler was extremely deterministic in his beliefs, while Toynbee was more optimistic. I’d like to ask you to think about your own civilization for a moment, your own culture, or country. Do you think it fits into one of these patterns? Discuss this with a classmate while I write some notes on the board.

I don't think "supplement" is a good word for the second and third items, as it implies "something in addition to."

One. (your own) civilization. In fact, it's referred to later as "it":
