opposite to "set/impose a deadline"

Hi,

Looking for an expression opposite to "to set/impose a deadline".
I wonder if any of the following verbs will do?

(1) disable a deadline
(2) cancel ...
(3) annul ...

Looks like none of them collocates with "deadline"?

EX: "Let's try to pursuade him to (???) the deadline" (because the deadline appears too tight, etc.)

, set the date back); I've never seen one actually eliminated completely. However, if that is the case, I would just cancel it.
