Opposite of "in advance"

Hello.

My teacher says that it's "in arrears". I've found a few examples but they seem to have different meanings.

E.g.: "He's been in arrears on his rent so often that he may be evicted."
But this means that he hasn't often paid on time.

Moreover, my dictionary says that "to pay in arrears" means 'to pay in the very last possible minute.'

So I'm doubtful whether a sentence like "You can take it now pay in arrears." means that you can pay, say, a few days after you take it.

Thank you in advance.

The Oxford English Dictionary is still one of the best.

What is a PC English-English dictionary?

PC = politically correct?

PS: "you can buy it now and pay for it later" is the phrase you're looking for. You can't say "but it now and pay in arrears".

Yeah to my understanding, The Opposite of Advance is Arrears/Retreat, they are used as verbs, and they have different meaning

Say Happy Birthday in Arrears, is the opposite of Happy Birthday in advance, While I can't talk by 2:am I will be in Advance, is the opposite of I can talk now I have Retreat/Retreated !
