For your second sentence, it is either "this situation" or "these situations" or "this kind of situation."

I would disagree. I know some people are of the opinion that if it follows the noun it does not need to be hyphenated, and/or if thought to be an adverb, as opposed to an adverb acting adjectivally, it could likely be omitted as well. However, I am of the school that if the first
