Opposite of culminate

What is the antonym of the word "culminate" ?
"His spectacular run of good luck culminated in his promotion to the board of directors."

As culminate to happen or exist as the final result of a process or situation I don't really think it has an opposite or at least can't think of anything. In your blank I would use the word resulted.

As culminate to happen or exist as the final result of a process or situation I don't really think it has an opposite or at least can't think of anything.

In your blank I would use the word resulted.

Culminate is just the final result of a process good or bad so Ivanhr is correct in saying that you could use it. Begin is the antoym to end and culminate is more complex than that.
