Here are a few comments.



Straw poll or straw vote. These terms relate to political issues. I don't hear these terms much in Canada.

Opinion poll - Can relate to many topics, political and non-political.

Thanks, Clive. Both the articles I read are about politics and elections. The "opinion poll" is about Poland's general election.

I found this on wiki: "Straw polls are contrasted with opinion polls, usually conducted by telephone and based on samples of the voting public." Is this the only difference? Or is straw poll more formal?

In Canada, I really only encounter the term 'opinion poll'.

You could google 'straw poll' and do a bit of research that way.
