- He's new on the job but he's alread operational.

- He was able to be operation in a week. (he's been here a week and already knows how to do the job and can be on his own)

Question : Can you use AS OPPOSED the way I have up above?

Thank you

alc24 Can you use OPERATIONAL for people as opposed to machines? It's possible, but, depending on the role, it may sound a bit inhuman. I can imagine it being used in military service, or in some other very regimented occupation.

Well this is my opinion.

I was a labourer for many yeas, and now I'm still doing something similar. To be honest with you among labourers it not a big deal to say if a person is operational.

Your second sentence is not inhumane, just incorrect. Maybe one of these pencil pushers here on the forum can correct it for you.

was a UPS unloader.

I think some new employees would take it as a compliment. To be able to work operationally is not something easy to do.
