What does open round-trip ticket and open ended ticket mean?

I heard someone use these words when reserving tickets.

Hi, open round-trip ticket I think this means you don't have to decide on your return date at the time you buy the ticket. open ended ticket I think this means the same thing. Otherwise, if you are not flying again, why would you need an 'open end'.
