Hi,
1) “We’ll do an open ballot next week to see when you want to take the final exam.”
Could ‘open ballot’ be used this way? The students will vote on when to have the final exam.
2) When you collect enough points over the course of the semester, you don’t really need to score that many of them in the final exam.
The points you get during the semester basically boost your chances at passing the exam.
Could I say this to a student who got a lot of points before even taking the exam:
“With your points you’ve got a good enough ‘cushion’ that can help you pass the exam.”?
I’m not sure if ‘cushion’ is the right word. I heard it in a tennis match where one of the players had a two-game cushion.
Thank you.
” I would not know what an "open ballot" was. I would guess it was a vote by show of hands, but I'd only be about 60% sure. The points you get during the semester basically boost your chances at passing the exam.
