Onset of an Illness

Hi there,

I would like to know:
(1) if there is any difference between onset or breakout of an illness?
(2) what is the verb for onset? Can I say: "How long will it take for the onset to occur after being infected?". Or is there any better way of saying this?

Thank you so much for your help! Thanks!!!
