Only just now

I would like to calrify the role of word "now" in the sentence like below. Doesn't "only just" by itself indicates that is "now"? If we omit "now" do you realise a bit other sense? Why, please?

I decided not to work or check my email over the weekend, hence I’m only just catching up with some mails now, including yours.
