Only - conjunction

Do you accept the use of only here?

I can't remember the names of the people I met, only the countries they came from.

Some dictionaries do list only as a conjunction, but is this only accepted by some people, or is it a question of formality?

Humility has got nothing to do with it. Unfortunately, it just happens to be true.

If I really need to be exact about punctuation, I consult a style manual, because I don't trust forums! HAH! A little joke there.
