Only by now

Hi

I had this dream a few days ago(maybe) that I can't just shake off from my head now.
I don't know why I have it up and around only by now, I mean why not the next day after the dream?
In this situation, can I say

"Why is it(dream image) active only by now?", meaning "why hasn't it come alive into my head before?"

Please correct it or let me know the most casual way of saying it.
