[only 5 copies of stamp] vs [stamp has 5 copies]

I have made up the sentences below.

(1) There are only five copies of the stamp in the world.

(2) The stamp has only five copies in the world.

Most of my non-native English speaking friends think (2) is both ungrammatical and makes no sense. However, I don't see anything wrong with it.

What is your opinion? Thank you very much.
